When configuring VRRP groups, you can configure the VRRP priorities. A switch with a high priority can serve as the Master, and the switch with a low priority can serve as the Backup. Once the Master switch is DOWN, the Backup can be elected the Master.
VRRP preempt mode: In a backup group not set to the preempt mode, once a switch becomes the Master, as long as it does not break down, other switches will not be the Master even if they are subsequently configured with higher priorities. If switches are set to the preempt mode, once a switch finds its priority higher than that of the current Master, it will become the new Master. Accordingly, the original Master will change into a Backup. The default mode is the preempt mode and the delay is 0.
VRRP monitoring the specified port: Once the VRRP interface monitoring function is enabled, when the monitored interface is down, the priority of the switch owning that interface will be automatically reduced by a certain value (value-reduced). Thus, priorities of other switches in that backup group may be higher than that of the switch, so that the switch with a higher priority turns the Master. The S9500 series only monitors the VLAN virtual interfaces, but not physical ports. If a VLAN virtual interface contains multiple ports, as long as one port is UP, its priority will not be reduced.
