Method to Upgrade VRP in BOOTROM TFTP Mode on AR28、AR46 Series Routers

[Operation procedure]

Step 1: The router performs power-on self-test and displays the following information:

Start to reboot...

   Hardware Version is MTR 1.0

  Press Ctrl-B to enter Boot Menu

Press Ctrl+B to enter the BOOTROM menu.

 

Step 2: The following information is displayed after you press Ctrl+B:

Please input Bootrom password:

Here, you need to enter the BootROM password (no password by default, press Enter). If you have changed the password, you need to enter the correct one. The system aborts after three wrong inputs.

 

Step 3: The following information is displayed when you enter a correct BootROM password:

Boot Menu:

     1:  Download application program with XMODEM

     2:  Download application program with NET

     3:  Set application file type

     4:  Display applications in Flash

     5:  Clear application password

     6:  Start up and ignore configuration

     7:  Enter debugging environment 

     8:  Boot Rom Operation Menu 

     9:  Do not check the version of the software 

     a:  Exit and reboot 

    Enter your choice(1-a): 2

 

In above prompt information,

Select 2:  Download application program with NET.

 

Step 4: Set the network parameters to be used by TFTP.

   Net Port Download Menu:

     1:  Change Net Parameter

     2:  Download From Net

     3:  Exit to Main Menu

     Enter your choice(1-3): 1

 

  Change Boot Parameter:

'.' = clear field;  '-' = go to previous field;  ^D = quit

boot device          : fei0

processor number     : 0

host name            : 8040

file name            : vxworks AR28-VRP340-R0006-907-128-a.bin     

/Version file name to be downloaded/

inet on ethernet (e) : 169.254.64.108 1.1.1.1                     

/Interface address of the local router/

inet on backplane (b):

 /TFTP server address/

gateway inet (g)     :

user (u)             : 8040

ftp password (pw) (blank = use rsh): 8040

flags (f)            : 0x0 0x80                      /0x80 is mandatory in TFTP mode/

target name (tn)     : 340-0006.bin          /File name saved in FLASH/

Modify the parameters in red and use the default values for others.

 

Step 5: Enable the tftp software and set the directory where the version file is located.

 

 

Step 6: Select 2:  Download From Net to download the version.

Net Port Download Menu:

     1:  Change Net Parameter

     2:  Download From Net

     3:  Exit to Main Menu

     Enter your choice(1-3): 2

You can view the transmission from the TFTP Server. (There is no progress prompt in old version of TFTP Server.)

 

  

Step 7: Upon the load, save the version file.

You are prompted to save the version as some type of startup file.

Select 1. Main application file.

Save the version file as Main type. The system begins to save the file.

 

Please select file to be saved as

   1. Main application file

   2. Backup application file

   3. Secure application file

   4. Cancel downloading

Enter your choice(1-4):   1   

The file to be written is flash:/340-0006.bin, please wait.
