Q: Which protocols are used in VoIP implementation?
A: At present, almost all the manufacturers use the standard protocol family of ITU-T — H.323 to implement VoIP. The H.323 protocol family is implemented at the application layer, and describes terminals, devices and services for multimedia communication in the LAN without guaranteed QoS, including H.225.0, H.245, G.729, G.723.1, G.711, H.261, H.263 and T.120 series.
G.723.1, G.729 and G.711 are audio coding/decoding protocols. H.263 and H.261 are video coding/decoding protocols. H.225.0 and H.245 are system control protocols. The T.120 series are multimedia data transmission protocols.
