What’s the difference between IPv6 Traffic Class and Traffic Label?
Q:What’s the difference between IPv6 Traffic Class and Traffic Label?
A:
Traffic class evolves from IPv4 TOS, which is used to identify IP data stream QoS, such as using CAR for Traffic Class/TOS 7 and using EF for 11. Traffic Label is a new filed, which is the most innovation change for IPv6 header. Before router need five information(source address, terminal address, protocol number, source port and terminal port) to distinguish one IPv4 data stream, which method router must read high layer filed like TCP/UDP, thus will raise router consumer. And except TCP、UDP stream such as OSPF、RSVP and ICMP cannot be distinguished using the five information. Then in IPv6, Ipv6 header contains Traffic Label, so it can identify one stream through three information of source address, terminal address and Traffic Label. So OSPF, RSVP an ICMP which don’t based on TCP/UCP can be identified also. The advantage of Traffic Label is IPv6 terminal node, such as one host sends different Ipv6 stream to allocate various Traffic Labels. It is he base to implement QoS stream management and monitor in all network.
