MWI doesn't light on some 3Com phones sometimes when the new messages come
1. Scenario:
There is no special requirement on the scenario,here is an All-In-One VCX server
2. Problem Description:
This problem comes from a customer case, the symptom is as follows:
1)MWI doesn't light on some 3Com phones, sometimes does;
2)Other phones including the same model have no problem.
3. Analysis:
3.1 Introduction to background knowledge:
About 3Com phone: phone gets its personal mailbox and huntgroup mailbox information from periodical registration and timely notification about user-profile change from VCX, it will maintain these mailboxes respectively and refresh them when receiving the Notify message about the new message status. If the message-account in the Notify body doesn't match any of these mailbox numbers, phone just puts it into its personal mailbox then refreshes its MWI status.
About IP Messaging server: When an alias is created for one master mailbox, IP Messaging server will the Notify message for the alias about its new message status change, where the Notify header is the alias number, but the message-account in the Notify body is the master mailbox number.
About VCX: VCX will never check the message-account in the body when forwarding the Notify message.
3.2 Troubleshooting:
For the phones which have the MWI issue, their huntgroup mailboxes are set as the alias on the IP Messaging server, and the master mailbox numbers are unknown to those phones. As a result, the phone will put the new messages either for itself or huntgroup into its personal mailbox and mix them up.
4. Solution:
Don't set huntgroup mailbox as alias on the IP Messaging server.
